City of Hixson

Named for Ephriam Hixson, Jr., a pioneer who settled the area in 1830, this community enjoyed rapid growth soon after TVA completed the Chickamauga Dam in 1940. Sixty years later, Hixson remains one of the fastest growing areas of Chattanooga.

Northgate Mall, built in 1973, was recently renovated. North Park Hospital and a number of retail shops have clustered nearby along busy Hixson Pike and Highway 153. Approximately 37,000 people live in this primarily residential area.

Hixson residents enjoy five playgrounds, two walking tracks, and three private golf courses, as well as swimming, boating, and fishing on Lake Chickamauga. Plans are underway for an environmental center at Greenway Farm, a 180-ace tract near North Chickamauga Creek.
