Chattanooga: Live, Work, Play

Formerly an industrial town, Chattanooga has made a transition to an economy combining services and manufacturing. The city's transformation from a sleepy Southern town with heavy pollution to a vibrant city with a slew of environmental awards to its credit has brought the town worldwide attention.

U.S. News & World Report designated Chattanooga "One of Six Cities That Work," and Family Fun named Chattanooga a "Top 10 Family-Friendly City."

Community leaders and private citizens joined together in recent years to raise millions of dollars to engineer the Chattanooga renaissance. The progress generated by private and public partnerships, the quality of life and the abundance of natural beauty make Chattanooga a great place to start, expand or relocate a business.

A study done recently highlighted a few of Chattanooga’s key assets:

  • A mid-sized community large enough to support a diversified economy with a strong base of support services.
  • The City of Chattanooga and Hamilton County offer a positive environment for private sector investment and growth.
  • The city and county provide a nurturing environment through a well-developed, cooperative, collaborative and pro-business culture.
  • The availability of low-cost, broadband telecommunications service through a fiber ring called MetroNet.
  • Excellent telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Strong north/south and east/west access via three Interstates.
  • University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Chattanooga State Technical Community College, and eight other institutions of higher learning create a thriving college atmosphere.
  • Chattanooga is within a two-hour drive of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga has a direct connection with ORNL's super computer.
  • The area has strong water, sewer, electric and natural gas reserves and capabilities.
  • Easy commute from all areas of the city.
  • One-stop shopping for permitting.
  • Excellent community incentives.
  • Local airport with direct flights to D.C., Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Orlando, Atlanta, Charlotte, and Cincinatti.
