Navigator of Entrepreneurship Award

DESCRIPTION |
|
The Navigator for Entrepreneurship will be presented to a Hamilton County-based, female-owned business that is a member-investor of the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce. The business should have been operating for at least three years but not more than ten years. The Navigator for Entrepreneurship "steers" her way in life by instituting at the workplace best practices for women. She should possess a trailblazing spirit of entrepreneurship while serving as an inspiration to women. |

CRITERIA |
|
Recipients must meet each of the following criteria:
- Must be a Hamilton County-based female business owner (at least 50% equity ownership).
- Independently-owned and operated franchise owners are acceptable.
- Must be a Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce member-investor in good standing.
- Must have owned business at least three years and no more than ten years.
- Must not have filed Chapter 7 or 11 bankruptcy or been subject to any civil or criminal investigations within the last three years.

Sheila Boyington, president of Thinking Media
Boyington has encouraged many women small business owners and has supported the development of her employees with a particular focus on insuring female peers and employees have every opportunity to reach their full potential. As president of Thinking Media and its largest shareholder, she developed support staff into office managers and made it possible for single women to earn sufficient income to support their families.
As vice president of the Girls, Inc. Board, Boyington stepped in during the absence of an executive director to sustain the programming and is leading the search for an executive director. She also serves on the board of the Chattanooga Women’s Leadership Institute and is a member of the Chattanooga Mayor’s Multi-Cultural Board.
Her company, Thinking Media, develops education and workforce development products, among them KeyTrain and CharacterEd.Net. The company is heavily engaged in community activities and has represented the city in the national arena in the fields of education and workforce development. |
