TPC, formerly known as Textile Printing Company, was founded in April 1924 by Joseph A. Schmissrauter, Sr. when he purchased some used printing equipment for $250. During its first 30 years, the company was primarily a general commercial printer servicing a regional textile industry. Mr. Schmissrauter’s son, J.A. Schmissrauter, Jr., transitioned the company into package printing in 1958 – making TPC one of the oldest independent folding carton producers in the South.
Under the leadership of the third generation of the family business (Joe III, Hilda, Mark, Kurt) the company name was changed in 1993 to TPC Printing and Packaging. The company has developed a broad base of packaging business in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, liquor, tobacco, hosiery, apparel, media/software and specialty foods.
In addition to the core folding carton products, the company also produces point-of-purchase displays, specialty set-up cartons and packaging canisters. Corporate services include structural and graphic package engineering, contract packing, fulfillment and logistics software design and development.
Through its affiliate, Interpak LLC, TPC is able to offer its customers a wide-range of high-speed packing equipment by amortizing the equipment cost over the cost of consumable packaging.
TPC is recognized as a world-class leader in the production of paperboard packaging. The company has been featured in several articles of the national trade magazine Paperboard Packaging and has received hundreds of awards for packaging design and print quality.
Company President, Joseph A. Schmissrauter III was recently recognized as 2003 Person of the Year by the Printing Industries Association of the South (PIAS). He states that "the company has survived 14 United States Presidents, 5 major wars, 11 economic recessions and one depression, and 2 attacks on American soil. Still, the mission is the same today as it has been for 80 years – to develop and maintain long-term relationships with our customers, associates and suppliers."
