 Coolidge Park
Spring 2004
Chattanooga, TN. One of Chattanooga’s must-see spaces is Coolidge Park.
Located in the heart of the North Shore Development between the Market and Walnut Street Bridges, Coolidge Park has something for everyone.
The six-acre park features a fully restored antique carousel complete with 52 hand-carved animals. After riding the carousel, kids of all ages can play on two metal hopscotch courts on the park pathway and then venture into the park’s large, interactive play fountain.
More than 5,000 gallons of fresh water are pumped through the fountain’s pipes, with the height of various sprays controlled by computers. Eight, water-spouting sculpted animals surround a central pool, lying in wait to squirt anyone who dares approach.
For older visitors, strolling across the world’s longest pedestrian bridge, soaking up the sight of the Chattanooga skyline across the Tennessee River, jogging around the park’s sidewalks, or exploring the nearby shops and eateries can fill a day with fun.
For more information about Coolidge Park or to make reservations to use the facilities, call (423) 757-2143 or e-mail reservations@coolidgepark.chattanooga.gov.

The Chattanooga Lookouts threw their first pitch in 1885, and Engel Stadium became the home of the Lookouts on April 15, 1930. Affiliated with the Cincinnati Reds, the Lookouts have included such baseball greats as Rogers Hornsby and Satchel Paige—both of whom are featured in the Chattanooga Baseball Hall of Fame. On April 10, 2000, the Lookouts defeated the Birmingham Barons in the first game played at their new stadium, BellSouth Park on Hawk Hill in downtown Chattanooga. The Lookouts now boast one of the highest attendance rates of any minor league team and one of the most recognized mascots—Looie the Lookout—in the nation.
