Growing the Economy with Enterprise South

Governor Bredeson speaks during the Enterprise South Grand Opening Event

Feb-March 2004

Officials say site is now “Open for Business.”

Governor Phil Bredesen predicted Enterprise South Industrial Park will create an economic boom for the Chattanooga community during ceremonies in December 2003 marking completion of Phase I in development of site.

“Economic development and business recruitment are top priorities of my administration,” Bredesen said. “Now, having one of the most sought-after industrial parks in the Southeast at our fingertips will help bring large industries back to Tennessee and high-quality jobs to the people of Chattanooga and Hamilton County.”

Mayor Bob Corker and Mayor Claude Ramsey joined Bredesen in hailing the 1,200-acre site on Bonny Oaks Drive as the cornerstone of a manufacturing rebirth for Chattanooga.

Completion of Phase I renders the site “shovel-ready” for development, with the construction of a main entry road into the park’s 900-acre main campus and installation of sewer infrastructure.

Signage and water features at the park entry were also included in the Phase I development.

The park is jointly owned by the City of Chattanooga and Hamilton County. The local governments made the first purchase of land in 2000 and over the years added more acreage and the site’s 21-mile railway system to the park.

Shortly before the Phase I celebration, local officials announced that an exit off Interstate 75 providing access to the park will be constructed by 2005.

Phase II development includes site preparation on the West Campus, 200 acres straddling Hickory Valley Road. The development will include site preparation and some demolition of the West Campus, installation of a storm water management system, and extension of roads and sewers.
