Spring 2004
Chattanooga, TN. Ann G. Weeks, general manager of Ivan Allen Workspace and founder of the
South Broad Redevelopment Group, received the 2003 Distinguished Service Award from the Southside Council of the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce.
The award recognizes individuals who have invested substantial energy and time in the betterment of their community.
Weeks’ civic involvements include serving as 2003 campaign chair for Allied Arts and 2003 chair of the Wine Over Water fundraiser for Cornerstones. She is a member of the boards of those organizations as well as the Chamber’s board.
The honoree is also a member of the board of advisors of AmSouth Bank and a member of the Rotary Club. She is a communicant at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Episcopal, where she is active as a lay leader.
“Ann Weeks has served her community with distinction in a variety of roles,” says Southside Council Member Bobby Dann, who chaired the award committee, “but the main reason for her receiving the honor was her leadership in formulating the South Broad Redevelopment Plan.”
Weeks was among a handful of concerned business and property owners on South Broad who came together in 2000 to bring about change in their community. Since that time the group has spearheaded a clean-up of the area, assisted the police department in reducing crime, attracted business development, and promoted South Broad as a live, work, and play community.
“We want to grow our investor network that can partner with the South Broad Redevelopment Group and the City of Chattanooga for beautification of the area,” Weeks says. “We are a metaphor for the Chattanooga Way—Chattanoogans making a difference by making things happen and getting involved.”
Earlier this fall the Southside Council presented a beautification award to Ivan Allen Workspace for renovating its building and landscaping its grounds at its South Broad Street location.
