Chattanooga, TN (April 17, 2006) -- Chattanooga is featured in Southern Business and Development magazine as one the Top 10 Southern Mid-Markets with Highly Diverse Economies.
The winter 2006 issue reports that Chattanooga enjoys a "robust" food and beverage industry, as well as scores of "next generation manufacturing operations." Smart appliances, nanofibers, supersonic surveillance drones and medical devices are cited among the high-tech manufacturing enterprises.
"Chattanooga’s solid business foundation helped the city achieve a Parade Magazine cover story and inclusion in an Utne Reader report on the Ten Most Enlightened Towns in America – not to mention U.S. News and World Report’s designation as one of the smartest cities in the world," the quarterly magazine reports.
Photographs of the Chattanooga skyline and the waterfront redevelopment accompany the recognition.
The magazine also lists Chattanooga among the Ten Places in the South that have Undergone an Economic Transformation. The magazine notes that while the city has "ditched its dirty, smokestack, manufacturing past for a clean, white-collar business future," it also points out that Chattanooga has come full circle with its manufacturing past, as it seeks to locate an automaker at Enterprise South Industrial Park.
