BI Power, a custom power packaging and integration solutions provider headquartered in Caldwell, Idaho, will locate its expansion to the Southeast in Chattanooga. The expansion represents an investment of $5 million and will create at least 60 new jobs.
IBI manufactures metal generator enclosures, metal equipment centers that hold electronic switchgear components and metal battery housings and control buildings, among other products.
“IBI is pleased to announce that we will locate in Chattanooga to better serve customers and potential customers east of the Mississippi River,” said Tom Weissenbuehler, IBI chief operating officer.
“This region boasts numerous companies in the metal industries, a skilled workforce and a superior transportation network -- all important considerations in our decision to locate here.”
IBI will occupy a 50,000-square-foot section of the Applied Thermal Coatings facility at 200 Compress Street, next door to Southern Champion Tray.
“This project was highly competitive with a serious bid for the expansion coming from north Georgia,” said Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield.
“We are delighted that Chattanooga was chosen for the IBI headquarters in the Southeast, and we are justifiably proud of our community resources that attracted the company.”
Hamilton County Mayor Claude Ramsey expressed his appreciation to IBI for locating here and generating job growth. “I am always happy to announce a project that means more jobs and more prosperity for the community,” Ramsey said. “And these 60 new jobs pay the kind of wages that can sustain a family.”
Trevor Hamilton, Chattanooga Area Chamber vice president of economic development, said IBI is one of a growing number of manufacturing operations that have expanded to Chattanooga in recent years.
“Manufacturing will continue to be a cornerstone of the Chattanooga area economy,” Hamilton said. “IBI proves that we can continue to compete for and win manufacturing projects.” IBI has assembled a dedicated staff of professionals -- including a full engineering and design team -- with a wide range of experience and expertise, according to Dave Erlebach, IBI CEO.
