Volkswagen Board Chair Tours Chattanooga Factory

Chattanooga, Tenn. (21 July, 2010) - As part of a working visit, Volkswagen AG Chairman, Dr. Martin Winterkorn visited the Volkswagen Group of America, Chattanooga Operations factory on Wed., July 21, 2010.

"I am deeply impressed by the progress of the project," Dr. Winterkorn said. "I look forward to being in Chattanooga again for the opening of the factory," he said.

Dr. Winterkorn was accompanied by Volkswagen Group Board members Dr. Francisco Xavier Garcia Sanz, Dr. Jochem Heizmann, Christian Klingler and Rupert Stadler.

After an introduction by Volkswagen Chattanooga Chairman and CEO, Frank Fischer, Dr. Winterkorn also met with Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen and other state and local officials during his visit.

The tour of the construction site included highlights of the under-construction facility including visits to the body, paint and assembly shops. Prof. Winterkorn met plant managers of each of the areas and was able to ask questions while getting detailed briefings about each section.

According to independent studies, the new Volkswagen plant is expected to generate $12 billion in income growth and an additional 9,500 jobs related to the project. The Chattanooga plant will build a new midsize sedan specially designed for the North American market.
