Towing Equipment Manufacturer Plans $10 Million Expansion

Miller Industries, Inc., the world’s largest manufacturer of towing and recovery equipment, has announced a $10 million expansion and modernization that has created more than 100 new jobs.  According to Miller Industries Chairman and Co-CEO Bill Miller, the expansion is an outgrowth of the company’s success in 2005 during which profits more than tripled compared to the previous year.

The project will add 50,000 square feet to the existing Miller Industries Towing Equipment Inc. facility in Chattanooga, bringing the total to 275,000 square feet. The project broadens the company’s capabilities and makes the facility more flexible.

Components of the project include creation of separate facilities for both the lightduty and heavy-duty business units as well as Towing Equipment Manufacturer Plans $10 Million Expansion the addition of new welding equipment, shot blasting, and paint facilities. The company began hiring and training the employees several months ago in anticipation of this expansion.

“This is a great day for Hamilton County,” said Hamilton County Mayor Claude Ramsey. “The towing industry was born here, and now, Miller Industries is once again adding highpaying jobs to the local economy.”

“Our manufacturing industry is once again proving its resilience,” said Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield. “Despite the major shifts that have occurred in the sector and intense global competition, Miller Industries is another example of how manufacturing is alive, well, and growing in our community.”

“Existing companies like Miller Industries are responsible for creating most of the new jobs in our economy,” said Trevor Hamilton, Chief Economic Development Officer for the Chattanooga Area Chamber. “We thank Miller Industries and other existing businesses for continuing to invest in the Chattanooga region and proving what Chattanooga Can Do when we partner with outstanding companies.”

Miller Industries markets its towing and recovery equipment under a number of well-recognized brands, including Century, Vulcan, Chevron, Holmes, Challenger, Champion, Jige, Boniface and Eagle.
