Chamber Honored for
Existing Business Program

The Chamber was recognized by Blane, Canada Ltd. at the 2007 Annual Synchronist Users’ Forum for excellence in the design, execution and impact of its existing business strategy and program, particularly for the Business Retention and Expansion Visitation (BREV) program.

Managed by the Chamber’s director of existing business development, Steve Hiatt, the program uses a Synchronist standardized survey to collect information from local business and manufacturing leaders. In addition, direct support of business expansion efforts was implemented to connect business leaders with resources and expertise.

The findings of the 2007 BREV survey are summarized in the accompanying article.

“As a result of the BREV program, key community issues were identified – including public schools and air service,” Hiatt said. “In response the Chamber launched the Education Initiative, providing increased support for public schools and a prepared workforce, and hired Dr. Kay Andrews to direct the initiative.”

Hiatt pointed out that the Chamber helped spearhead a community effort that raised $325,000 in 30 days to help secure a grant providing for better air service in Chattanooga.
