Red Bank Council Honors Distinguished Service Award Recipients

William Pippin received the Outstanding Citizen Award during the Red Bank Council’s 25th Annual Distinguished Service Awards Luncheon at the new Red Bank Community Center.

Pippin served as Red Bank City Commissioner from 1982 to 1986 and "as a volunteer ever since," according to Red Bank Commissioner Ruth Jeno. He has also volunteered with the Chattanooga Fire Department and served as Sunday School superintendent at Edgewood Baptist Church.

Red Bank High School mathematics teacher Debra Weiss received the Outstanding Educator award. Weiss, who contributes to many student organizations and extracurricular activities, is a dedicated teacher who has the ability to make mathematics enjoyable, said Sonja Millard, Council vice president of membership.

Southern Restaurant was honored as the Outstanding Business for 2009. The restaurant owner, Jack Fred Wood, died in January. Wood’s wife, Charlene, asked that instead of giving her the award that it be dedicated to her late husband.

Komatsu representative Randy Ragan accepted the Humanitarian Award on behalf of the equipment manufacturer, saluted by the council for its many contributions to the Red Bank community.
