Federal Priorities

Our federal priorities focus on ensuring our region, the state, and the U.S. remain competitive in an increasingly globalized economy. We support legislation that focuses on finding a responsible balance for our nation’s annual budget, addressing the pandemic to address the economic recovery needed to ensure a robust economic, revisions to the Affordable Care Act that eliminate new taxes on small businesses, and the repeal of burdensome regulations that prevent businesses from doing their work.

REGULATIONS

Unnecessary federal regulations stifle business growth and create unnecessary costs to doing business. We support the removal of over burdensome federal regulations that serve no public interest

TARIFF AND TARIFF THREATS

Oppose executive branch efforts to levy tariffs on imports with little or no input from the legislative branch. Chattanooga has more than 90 companies whose headquarters are overseas and our economy relies on free and fair trade

FEDERAL SPENDING

Support responsible reform to both mandatory and discretionary spending within the federal budget to ensure long-term fiscal stability

SOCIAL SECUITY, MEDICARE AND MEDICAID

Federal spending and debt levels continue to climb largely due to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid costs.  The Chattanooga Chamber supports measures to ensure these programs remain solvent well into the future

AFFORDABLE CARE ACT

Support reformation of the Affordable Care Act that reduces cost to small and medium size businesses
